Dr Saleemul Huq, Ms Farah Kabir, H E Mr Robert Chatterton Dickson, Prof Milan Pagon inaugurate the 6th Climate Change Conference at Independent University, Bangladesh.
“Gobeshona 6: Research into Action” – a 4-day international conference on climate change research was inaugurated today at its host, Independent University, Bangladesh’s auditorium. The conference is being organized by International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD).
The Gobeshona Conference is an annual international conference on knowledge dissemination focusing on research practices that attract academics, practitioners, policy makers and delegates who are involved with work related to climate change and development.
The inauguration saw opening remarks by Dr Saleemul Huq, Director, ICCCAD who spoke about the history of the conference and welcomed the delegates. The four special guests were Ms Farah Kabir, Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh; H E Mr Robert Chatterton Dickinson, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh; Professor Milan Pagon, the Vice Chancellor (Acting) of IUB. Attendees of the inaugural event were shown a video message from Mr Ban Ki Moon, Co-Chair of Global Commission of Adaptation (GCA) welcoming them to the event.
The inauguration ceremony was followed by six panels, hosted by WaterAid, UN Women, BRAC, ActionAid Bangladesh, IDCOL and Concern Worldwide. The four-day conference will end on the 24th of January, and more panels will be held in the following days.
Sharnila Nuzhat Kabir is a 2nd year Environmental Science student at Independent University, Bangladesh. Alongside pursuing her degree, she is the Head of Partnerships at local youth-led social development organization Footsteps Bangladesh.
